The end to a very successful hunting trip

My 3 buddies and I went up for the first week of October as we do every year and we had great success. We headed out on the evening before Oct. 1 to an area near cache creek. The first morning that we hunted my buddies took down 2 Mule bucks. We all spoted many bucks but not many of them had alot of head gear. The largest one we saw until the saturday was a larger 2x2. It seemed like slim pickings and we all had to work to find an area that did not have as much pressure from other hunters. We saw 2 big bull moose, 1 spike fork moose, many cow moose, and my buddy took down a couple of wolves. It seemed as though it was going to be a lost cause on getting a larger deer and then my one friend took down a bit larger deer. Hope was restored. I alone did not have a deer and it seemed as though i was going to get skunked on finding a larger deer and i might have to settle for a little smaller. Then on the saturday morning (the day we had sceduled to leave) I hunted a cut that had shown great potential and I camped in a great spot all morning.....nothing came ( thats hunting). I took off on my atv in search for a new spot. By now it was 8 am and my hopes were diminishing. I booted up a skidder trail and 2 minutes up the trail I found this beauty standing on a ridge some 250 yards away. He stood there as I quickly identified that he was a big buck (at this point i didnt count the points but knew he was larger). He moved a couple feet forward on a ridge and I couldnt see his head or antlers from my possition. As hunting always goes...you hesitate you loose. I didnt waste time and took a shot at him as I perched myself up to see over all the 7 foot trees in front of me. He bounced off like I missed him not skipping a beat. I went to track him to see if I could have another oportunity at him and when I got to the ridge I found the blood trail. Yippy. I raced to get my buddies, still not knowing the true size and points of the buck. We then tracked him through the cut and into the forest. That is were we found him. He had made it about 20 yards into forest before he dropped, with a double lung hole. I guess it goes to show that you put enough effort in and walk enough miles through the bush hard work eventually pays off. Thanks to all my buddies who helped me drag him out of forest and putting up with my compaining about not seeing a large buck at the begining of week.
Happy hunting to all those who have yet to get their buck

Nice and clean and even. Best way to get a larger buck is to let the little guys walk... well done sir.

It's a sweet buck! What would be a rough score on something like that?
