Can you get to the other side of the N Arm without a boat Steve?
no you need a boat to access the other side and its side valleys (roaring river, penfold, etc) Also there is a 40hp restriction being implemented on the Mitchel River at some point this spring. Dont know exactly when it comes into effect, but might be something to check out if you plan on using any of the lower river looking for bears.
good luck, seen some nice ones out there!
hmmmm sorry for the delay these 14 hour nite shifts with hair straight back all night do get tiresome for us old guys..
This draw is exellent in more ways than I care to explain in public..some areas of this draw in fact DO require a sturdy boat and some info..both on the lake and on the area to be hunted...the EASY obvious access areas are hit by the majority of the hunters drawing this tag...and indeed it DOES have good population of big wonderful grizzlies..
HOWEVER there are a few "CHOICE" spots that do not require a boat, just knowlege of the trails to access these gems...and those are the areas that the bears grow old and absolutley HUGE...THATS the area that will provide the best bang for the buck..my bear was harvested out of this honey hole..second oldest bear shot in BC(Canada)..I know of dozens of bears shot off this area by resident hunters(select few) over the years..prior to LEH..it STILL produces helped several guys get their grizzly off there..
The other area is 5-15 c..it also has GREAT bear hunting..while sitting here typing I can even remember the smells of fleshing out grizzly hides up those areas over the years...
With 15 hunters on my phone list I will get to it in the next week...for this area..WONDERFUL DRAW..congradulations..you will do just fine...
This is THE BEST YEAR FOR GRIZZLIES IN 20 YEARS..everyone should do exceedingly well...
my buddy had that draw last year, i took him...seemed all the griz hunters were coming when we left...June 2nd. We did count 40 plus bears in the 5 days we were there but didnt see a single Griz. Talking to a few miners they said the odd was being seen but they dont come til later June.
Hmmm GREAT PHOTOS kAISER...yes there are alot of black bears in there also..Maeford lake my brother and I saw 30 in one day(dawn till dusk)..last year the grizzlies were out early...seen tracks in there from May 15th on... but not in all areas, depends on the den up site..and which area of each LEH...
Some issues are access, and rivers that get blown out and crossing is dangerous if sometimes not impossible...sometimes it means going to plan B..or merely waiting a couple of days.
The Cariboo mts do get an incredible amount of snow..one of our local late spring snowmobile areas... and access can be great untill you turn the corner to 8 feet of snow in certain areas.. LOCAL KNOWLEGE REALLY DOES HELP..
This year there may still be issues come the best time to do the spring Cariboo mtn hunt...
I do know the area, and it will be late this year...I have had coffee with the Cariboo Mountain crew thats currently doing the mountain cariboo count...and they confirm completely the snow levels, access issues and best possible dates.....
I am starting round 2 of my contacting spring grizzly hunters tonite and this week...
I STILL feel this will be THE BEST year in 20 years for successfull grizzly hunts..
cheers
