My father and I just got back from our annual spring bear hunt. We hunted for five days in total. The area that we hunt holds an unusually high ratio of color phase bears. By the fourth day I had seen 16 bears only three of these were black in color. The rest were different shades of brown. I have always wanted a large color phase and so we have been hunting this area for the past several years hoping for a big one. On the evening of June 1st my boar showed himself. I was headed back to camp on my quad and he jumped off the road and disappeared. I felt that he was a good size so I parked and decided to walk around a bit. I walked around the area and sure enough he came back out about 20 minutes later. This time he was about 80 yards away and was unaware of my presence. He didnt give me a clear shot at first but he moved quickly in my direction. Finally he stepped out at 30 yards. Kaboom..... He squares 6'9".
