Last year the farmer that lets us hunt his properties told us his son would like to come along on a duck hunt. Clayton was 10, really good kid and we thought it would be fun. He had a call and was actually pretty good, we let him call ducks all morning.
I signed him up for the “My first day at the range” day put on by Reliable gun and held at Pitt Meadows Gunclub and he hit about half the targets he shot at. We told his parents to get him a jr license. We bought him a Federal duck stamp and have a Winchester SXP compact for him to shoot. He got his first duck Thanksgiving day!
He’s been out 4 times getting 2 the second day, 5 the 3rd day, and 8 the 4th!
He only gets one shell at a time, the pump was being used by the gunclub for another youth day so I gave him my Browning Twentyweight 2 shot 12ga with IC choke. Again, one shot at a time.
It worked well for him, he bagged a greenhead limit firing 13 shells!!!
We ended with 23 greenheads and one hen…, I spoiled a perfect greenhead limit.
A most memorable day!
