How are the numbers this season? I've only seen 1-2 while pushing through timber looking for deer. Lots of quail and partridge around in the towns just hanging out too.

Was in region 8 for a few days 2 weeks ago. Had half a dozen heart attacks while hiking. And by that I mean I flushed half a dozen grouse.
I found the numbers way down.
Been out a few times in spots that always produce, seen two, killed one, tasted great but thought we would have seen more.
Ok that's what I am observing as well. Rainy spring?
Shot many in region 8 in my first season hunting. If this is a poor year I’m looking forward to the good ones!
I rarely shoot them but took my first limit this year.

Saw more driving around than ever before. The usual mountain coveys were not there, but neither was the snow. I've always assumed the snow pushes them onto the south facing slopes and into groups. Would say this year was average for my region 8 spot based on our 13 years hunting there.
R8 is pretty big.
Roughly where were you at?
I spent some time in R5 - R8 a few weeks ago. Somewhat less than average from recent years I'll admit, but still decent numbers.
