Some yrs they are pretty thick around here. Last winter they were absolutly EVERYWHERE.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Region 6.
They're awesome birds. They're tasty and easy to harvest, but what's really intriguing is how friendly and welcoming they are when you come across them.
I find it hard to justify packing a second weapon into goat or sheep terrain just for a ptarmigan.
Watch for raptors; if they spot one flying overhead, ptarmigan will freeze dead still. Many folks (wink wink) have caught them with bare hands during such events.
"I've seen grown men pick at food. They can't be hungry in the first place. Or maybe their food has been too fancy and with all the choices they've had, they don't really know what they enjoy anymore." - Dick Proenneke
Yep, Goose bay Labrador , tasty
You'll never see me on Hoarders , cause I cant afford that much sh_t!!
Any general pointers of where to start looking in region 5, as Iam moving up that way.

april fool in waiting
Revisiting an old thread here, anyone hunt ptarmagin in reg 3, maybe up 3 40s? Maybe towards lilloet or clearwater
Haven't been there since i started hunting but I will be this year. 3-16/17 hold them (or did) along with the whole region 3 goldbridge area way up high though.
I know they are around 2-11 in the winter. Intel from the tow guy who helped me there with a flat plug was 'I can't seem to ****ing find them during season, but once it's done they are everywhere i go snowmobiling.'
