    Which knife should I get?

Hello, I am wanting to get a knife for hunting and I found two on ebay that I like, but I can't decide which one to get. I thought I would ask here and maybe someone has used one of these before or something.

    This one:

    Or this one:

I am kinda leaning towards the first one. In the description of the first knife it says that the blade goes all the way thru to the other side of the handle. Would the other knife have that too? The second has a cool compass on the bottom though.

I bought a smaller knife from them, so I thought I would get another knife so I can get a deal on shipping.
Here is the other one I bought: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MEWN:IT&ih=003

For general around camp stuff either would be OK, but for me at least they are both not desirable for skinning game, I like a rounder point and a much shorter blade. Nice knives but a good skinning knife will cost you a bit more than that. IMO

I own one of each of these

I agree with Steeleco on blade design. Your choice is OK for around camp but not much more. Buck and Gerber both make some resonable and very good Hunting Knifes and stay with a rounded nose and a tang that goes all the way down the handle.

I've got the one that Steelco has, the Vanguard it has a rubber grip and doesn't get slippery when covered in blood. The buck knives have a pretty good edge on the as well. I'd stay away from the "Rambo" style knives, unless you want to cut down trees.

I wouldn't buy either of those knives. Way too big. the blade is too long and no good for skinning. I would go with a Buck or Gerber that has a gut hook on it. Excellent knives for gutting and skinning. Stay away for the big Bowie style knives, nice for hacking down willows and such, but in my opinion your money could be better spent buying a smaller, more compact knife.

You should check out some of the designs that Blacktail makes.

Lots of good advice here, I have a variety of styles of knives hiding all through my hunting/camping gear. I think the longest blade is about 3"

A pig sticker like the ones you are looking at will be nothing but a pain in the butt if you try to use it for cleaning game.

My favorite is probably the Bucklite and for a "camp axe" I keep a Gurkha Kukri in my truck, like those you are looking at it's not much use on game but the blade style makes it great for camp utility like trimming limbs and splitting kindling.

In my experience the longer a guy has been hunting the smaller his blade is. I have gutted plenty of critters with my trusty swiss army pocket knife.

for a good all-purpose hunting knife I've been using the Buck Zipper for about 5 years now with no complaints. Keep an nice edge - good for about 2 deer skinnings. Retails for around $75 I think.[img]

I wouldn't buy either of those toe-stabbers on e-bay. I use a folding Kershaw Blackhorse. It holds an edge better than any others I've owned, and the rubberized grip on the handle is nice when you're shoulders deep in moose guts.
