Another thing that points to them not being the same Buck is look at the configuration of the trim of the brow hair the black line on the live buck is flat between the eyes, dead buck is a strong W shape.

Now im not sure if the winter coat could change that so drastically but just something else that I noticed.

In the name of curiosity and the need to fondle those bones.
You could try taking a photo of your antlers at the same angle of the velvet pic....

I'll take the same angle pic when I get it back from the taxidermist. The brow tine direction like theObserver said, now have me questioning it. And then the "W" unibrow as well....
