So last year I shot a little 3x4 meat bull on the second last day of the season 10min from my house. Found this little hot spot on the _ _ _ e _ / _ a _ _ e road west of Fort St John. Beautiful rolling hills with thick aspen, the typical Peace River Valley flora, with red fireweed and wild rose understory changing into fall colours. Well I went back there with my son for the beginning of the season this year and called two spike bulls to within 13yards. Walked right by us and never knew we were there.
I decided to go back there a few days later and saw the same spike bulls and a bunch of cows and calves and figured I better sit down and watch for a bit to see what else might walk out. Well 10sec. later out walks this nice 5 x 5 and I figured I better get busy but he was more than 450 yards away. I just came back from a successful sheep hunt up north and knew my rifle was good to 301 yards but I could not get any closer and I had a perfect rest so I figured I could do it. Well after only 6 shots ( i know I already heard that from all my friends, you can stop laughing now) he went down with a Prespatou Heart shot. You can see the hillside where I shot from to the left of my hat in the second pic.
The rest is history. Now I can get my kid some grouse and maybe a coyote or two.
