Anybody planning on getting over to Prince Rupert for the $100,000 fishing derby?

Well I'm still on the fence about that derby. I like the idea of attracting more tourism money to the area but I'm not sure the coho stocks are ready for that kind of pressure. But either way, not going.

Yeah, seems kinda iffy to me..I agree with Kris on the coho stocks not being ready for that kind of fishing....and the idea of winning $100000 is bound to induce some questionable habits and ethics in people, I'm not sure how I feel about the whole idea.

Yeah, I hear you, but I'm no expert and as far as I know DFO has been consulted through the whole process. If they say the stocks are ok, I can't really argue. As far a questionable ethics, you have to hope that everyone plays by the rules I suppose. I know they have safeguards in place and I'm sure the COs will be out. Either way, its bound to be an interesting few weeks.

a derby like that will not catch as much fish as one sien boat and bring in a whole lot more money. the tackle and gass hotels will be a bonus for prince rupert.
