    Scope shroud

With me bushnell 3200 i recieve a scope shroud (big piece of metal the screws onto the end of the scope, not the eye piece). I was just wondering, what would one use this for?

Used as sunshades and have heard they help stop distortion from barrel heat.

I had an Elite 3200 5-15x40mm with the sunshade, IIRC mine was 3 or 4"

If it is short it is sunshade. They also make really long ones for varmit hunters, they prevent the heat waves from barrel distorting the vision.
