i thinking of buying a newer bow and was wondering how to measure my draw length. its been a long time since i bought a bow and time to upgrade. is there a site that grades the dif bows and compares them? thks gary

As for bow comparison that is really up to you and what feels good to you. Try as many bows as you can.

Hi Garyt,
I use this formula: Outstretch your arms to the side and measure the distance from middle finger to middle finger, then substract 15 and divide that number by 2. It helps if you have someone measure your outstretched arms. This will give you your D.L. Check out Huntersfriend.com or is there a local archery club near you.

Basically it's wingspan divided by 2.5 - which will get you close enough to begin shooting.

you can also get some one to stand in front of you and hold a tape measure to your chest. then with both arms reach out and clap the tape between your hands. where ever your middle finger end up on the tape is your draw length.

Just make sure that what you buy is adjustable. Have a hard look at something beginning at the 28" mark. See if it goes up to the 29" mark that you're thinking of.

Quick draw length measurements as described above do get you into the ball park - but they are generally a bit too long - so get a bow that's adjustable upward from the 28" mark. Just my 2 cents worth.

if you between a 28 and 29 .. like you excact draw would be 28.25 ...then get a 28 Draw and set your release or loop etc to make up the extra 1/4 inch ....

if you get a 29" you will be long drawn ... you will expiraince wrist slap ... and you wont be nearly as accurate
