    Duck boats and blinds

I'd like to know what other people's set up's are.

boats (type and power or paddle)
    blinds (on the boat?)
    photo's?

I'm going to get myself set up for next fall with something and just want some ideas.

I built a sneakbox and used it two seasons in New Brunswick with excellent sucess before moving to the island. Haven't even taken the shotgun out since I have been in BC but hopefully next year I will have the time.

The sneakbox is great, you cam it up at home and it gives you a decent mobile blind that's also dry.

Will post pics if I come across them.

I've got a 13 foot canoe that I taxi into the marsh on my 14 ½ foot aluminium boat. I put a board on a slant on the back seat of the canoe and lay back on it so that all that is hanging out of the canoe is my head. My dog lies between my legs and I cover him with a camo net and grass from the surounding area, when the ducks come into the decoys I just sit up and shoot. I try and position the canoe so that I can get a decent swing over the decoys and avoid shooting over the dog’s head. Here is a picture taken in 2003 of Nash in my canoe after I've got it laid out. You can see my shotgun and a pair of teal I got that morning. I wear shadow grass head net and jacket when laid out this way.

I use my 12' Harbourcraft and Honda 9.9 4 stroke to get me out to the area I hunt. I use a camo cover to hide the boat and throw a little local vegitation onto the cover after I have it spread out. I bought the camo at a Fanny's fabrics outlet but the one near me doesn't have it anymore...

    Re: Duck boats and blinds

I have also built a few permanant blinds in the marsh but this year I didn't use this one as the area I was having success at had lots of natural cover and was on a good flyway. Also, the wind has to be from the direction of the golfcourse to have a good shoot at this one and most of the time it comes off the lake... I may move this one, I have a couple empty beer kegs and some other small barrels to use as floats and we may cut the stilts off and float the blind to a new base (possibly to where I hunted most of this year).
The blind was built during the last season and I built it 9' long and 30" wide. I put in a bench seat, a couple small areas that extend out of the blind to hold shell bags and birds, and even a few cup holders . One tip I'll give anyone building a blind on stilts over water, make sure you put in a toe board all the way around so that things dropped on the floor don't roll off the edge into the water. Another is don't put your entrance at the end, make it at the back so it's hard for the birds to see in.

An open boat with a cover for when you get there is probably the way I'll go. I have a larger aluminum fishing boat (too big) and a couple of project boats (not enough time) but I think I'll look in the buy sell for an old lund or something. Then I'll rig up somekind of portable blind for when I get on shore. Nice pictures guys and thanks for the info.
