    Tried for a 3-pack..

Well I was supposed to be searching for work today, but the sun was shining and I didn't get a chance to do any hunting on the weekend so I went hunting instead. I wanted to try and get all three species of grouse in one trip, as well as explore some different country than I normally hunt.

Unfortunately the ruffed grouse didn't want to cooperate but I still had a good day. The day started off with one Blue down and one missed, which was a good thing because right after I missed it was flying off a pretty steep rock face. Then about twenty minutes later I sluiced my first bird of the year a Spruce grouse. The little bugger just wouldn't fly

I wanted to try and get a shot of the orange eyebrow of the blue with the red of the spruce, but it didn't work. I'll have to get PGK to give me some photography lessons.

One more back at the truck.

Finally some scenery shot from the end of the road. Some from Kamloops will probably recognize.

Awesome. One bird in the shade, one bird in the light, that's your problem. You need a lot of direct light on the subject for decent bird macro.

I need to kill a blue grouse

I need to kill a ruffie, it's been all blues for me so far this year.

Still to many leaves where I normally hunt ruffs. I flush em then shoot a bunch of trees up

    Thanks for the tip

Been all spruce for me. I'm gettin slow and lazy because of it. Spruce chickens stand there and let me kill em while the ruffies are busting cover at 20y and I'm barely getting my gun up. Freakin pathetic.

Nice! that ruffie will come. I saw 4 to 1 ruffs vs spruces and no blues last week, then flushed 5 blues the other day while hiking (no gun, doah!).

Tell me about it. I need a bird dog BADLY. At least then when the dog gets birdy I will get ready to shoot! I don't know how many times I've walked roads this year, then my mind starts to wander 'cause I've been walking for ever. Then I start carrying my gun on my shoulder like an African PH, then Blamo!! Ruff's flying all over.

Course I'm not ready and don't get a good shot.

They always know when your not ready.

    Always.

Every time. The best time was when I was doing the african PH shoulder carry and three giant ruffs busted the alder ten feet away and I dropped my gun trying to swing on them. Wicked.

Yeah that would have been Awesome PGK One of my favorites is when they flush just as you are lifting your leg to step over a log or something.

Wing shooting on one foot should be an Olympic sport
