    Our first grouse

It may seem strange to some of you but....

This being our first hunting season. There we were walking along intentionally looking to find some grouse today. And lo and behold there they were, 7 of them. They all flushed together. Was able to get a couple of shots off and took one down. Spirit spent about 10 seconds to find it and then 10 minutes barking at it before he would pick it up. He finally picked it up and delivered it to hand. I must say I was very proud. We spent the next hour or so tramping the bush to see if we could get the others. Flushed a few but no shots. We held our heads high and carried on.

Nothing better then a pup with their first bird, nothing! I hope you kept the fan or at least a feather or two

Kept the feet, wings, fan and some feathers for fly tying.

Can't wait to go again. We're taking it one step at a time. Grouse>>Ducks>>Geese. His face is still a bit too small for geese yet.

Congratulations! I agree there's nothing like a dogs first grouse. I sure wish I had a pup around, nothing quite as enjoyable as bird hunting over a good dog.

Spirits master, look up in the trees around in the direction you have flushed the birds, I have shot a lot that way. Congrats on the grouse. They also are good in a teriyaki stir fry.
