Used to be that the red squirrel, that is to say the native one found all over the province, was considered a "fur bearer" and could not be shot just willy nilly. It could be targeted by trappers though. It was mentioned in the regs, but I've misplaced my copy, so if you have yours, check it out. It may be in the trapper section. I understand the non-native variety in the lml is fair game though and that's only because it's an introduced, similar to the bullfrog.

You can only hunt the native squirrel if its wrecking your property.

Red Squirrels are still considered a fur bearing animal and can only be harvested by a trapper on his or her trapline. This is why it is not in the hunting regs. Check out the trapping regs at the back of the hunting regs. section. Grey and Black as well as fox squirrels are not native to BC and are legal for harvest. These Squirrels are really hard on the native populations.

Just remember; POST PICS when you're done and set up a feed station. Once it's established (2 days max) and kept full of seed, you should be able to nail countless numbers of these pesky little fellas... There is NO bag limit.

    From the regs:

4Schedule "C" animals can be captured or
killed anywhere and at any time in BC.
Schedule “C” birds may be hunted using electronic
calls. You do not need a hunting licence
to hunt or kill the following:

    (h) all species of the genus Sciurus - gray
squirrels and fox squirrels. (Blacks included)

As mentioned earlier, you can't hunt reds.

We should do a contest on HBC like the PredatorHuntCanada one, but for urban hunters. We could have a point system for Grey Squirrels, Fox Squirrels, Crows, and Starlings. Heck, it could be for any schedule C critters. Then at the end of the year the person with the most points gets a prize. I am at 4 Grey Squirrels and 5 Starlings this year.
