what is the best way to reduce flying embers-apart from choosing wood .Some people say the top stove pipe should be perforated to cool the embers down brfore they fly out[they used to shoot the pipe with a 22]others use a screen[which could impede draft.
What is your solution?

The screen won't impede draft as long as you don't allow it to become caked with creosote etc.
