    6x5 Bowed Elk

Bowed this 6x5 elk Sept 6th @ about 25 yds, double lunger. He took off and ran approx. 75 to 100 yds before crashing. Tried tracking him, tough go! No blood. I searched for quite awhile to no avail. I radioed for my bloodhound to help, my hunting partner, Rockrabbit. He was able to pick out a singe drop of blood on a trail approx. 65 yds from where I nailed him, and from there we located the elk piled up in brush. Mike, (Rockrabbit) went and got his ATV with his wagon on the back and we struggled to load it up, but we did, and got it back to camp before the local large Griz. snacked on it. Got a few pics back and I will try to post them. Hopefully more to come.

Left to right - Rockrabbit, Hotload, and Boyd050

How to make antlers look small. Clockwise - 220 lbs, 240 lbs, 270 lbs, 125 lbs. We thought it would help to put my wife in the middle but it didn't help much.

    Great tracking job!
No blood for 65yd? I think I would have started to wonder if I hit him.
Just curious, @ 25 yd did the arrow not exit or make a exit wound? ( no experiance with bows)
Nice animal regardless congrats, and for what it is worth ya, the first antler pic is deceiving. Much inproved by the smaller indivdual

Congrats! The head looks tasty, anyway. What equipment/tackle were you using?

    Congrats Dude!

Weird how they can be so hard to find after the shot, even if they go down right in front of you.

I figure not many piss you guys off when you're in the bush.
Your crew could leave the guns at home and just - bonk em'!

    Good Luck... Sir!

I was going to stay on the tracking forever if I had to. I held my timing on the shot til i had a good one and I knew i had hit him hard. He bolted back where he came from hard, but i stayed put quietly and watched and listened and I thought i could hear him pile up. Just had to find where. The quietly looking and listening helped huge. The biggest problem that we had finding him is that the elk were held up in such heavy brush. The arrow took out both lungs as I had aimed for but what i didn't like was the no blood and the gold tip arrow shattered inside of him. The 3 blade muzzy was still like brand new though.
