    Target Load for Grouse?

We are heading out tomorrow for Deka. I have decided to take my 12 guage as well as a 22 for grouse (along with my 30-06 for bigger stuff). I have several boxes of 12 Guage 7 1/2 target load shot (1180 fps). Would this do for a grouse load. I have some old #5 that I will use up first, and a full box of #2's, but I think that might be a bit to big a load.

    So will 2 3/4 # 7.5 work?

    Thanks
    James

James, use the #5 first. Trap loads (7.5) should be fine out to a certain distance with the smaller birds I would think.

    Save the #2's for ducks

Phoneguy ... save the #7.5's .... the #5 will work better. Less meat damge (especially if your shooting a Full choke) and better range. The #2's ... as pepper stated .... for duck's or wabbits.

I just nailed my limit using #8's.
Worked like a charm with only 1 breast getting one little hole in it - No bloodshot, just a hole.

#8 works fine for me for close range. no meat damage.#5 is fine for longer shots and try to aim a little higher.have a fun.

I use #5's in my .410 in three inchers. Knocks em down really easily. For 12 ga. I used to use anything from 5's to 8's. They all worked fine too.

I use 12 guage 2 3/4 7 1/2 target loads with modified choke on a 28" barrel and they work well. My longest shot was approx 35 yards and I lined up on it's kneck and got 1 in the head and 2 in the breast. My closet shot was 3 yards and I lined up just above it's head and I took the head clean off with no pellets in the breast.

7 1/2's are fine. That's all I've ever used for grouse (25+ years)
doesnt matter what kind of bullet it is, as long as it weighs 180 grains its DEADLY, even on ass shots....Todbartell-2009
