    woodies in the snow

    There were four pairs of wood ducks on our farm pond yesterday.





    Oh and so much for spring.

    Those have got to be one of the prettiest birds in BC, do you have some nesting sites for them?
    Built for shale not trail.

    We have put up two nest boxes at this pond but took one down last fall because it had a major beehive in it. I really would rather they nest along the nearby creek as this site has a lot of competition from starlings and is also subject to invasion by gray squirrels. I do have plans to build more boxes and distribute them along the roughly one mile of creek and quarter mile of river that run through our farm. It is looking like the one pair may be looking at nesting in the box that is still up. So it may be 17HMR patrol time for the squirrels.
