Why not construct one on site? A tarp, cut some branches for cover.... basic cutting tools should do it.

Because they aren’t portable I guess? I know a few spots that guys hunted for years where they did make their own blinds, individual panels and a small wood stove they would dismantle and cover up during the off season. Then assemble at the start of the season in each spot and hunt whichever one they liked that day

    Re: Ground Blind help

Pop up blinds are great. I shot a deer last fall out of one I set up the day before. Like anything theses days expect shit quality regarding zippers and such. Also look at the size when packed up. I have two of the smaller one man blinds that can be carried on your back. Easier to transport in and out.

Blind hunting requires a lot more clothing if you are going to sit in the cold. Carrying in more clothes as well is something to consider when deciding how far back in the bush you want to go.

In the snow you are giving up the locations you are hunting. Guys will follow your tracks in the snow as well and decide to use the blind, leave it or take it with then. A small chain and padlock to a tree can help with the theft but if they see your blind they will scout the deer tracks as well and now it's buddy's favourite spot too.

A couple years ago I was sitting in my blind when two guys came up around 8 am to use it. They said they didn't see my truck so figured it was open to use. I moved it that day.

As mentioned before, an hour of work with a bow saw and some para chord can make a nice little blind with the natural local materials but the wind and waterptoofing is nice with a pop up.

Agreed but these pop up ones do leak.

I have 3 Dog Hose pop-up blinds. Perhaps just luck but none of mine ever leaked.

Even had a large tree come down on one flattening it. Amazingly it survived.

Backstory on that. It was totally my fault. I pushed over the dead tree because I was worried about it falling while I was in the blind. I ignorantly though I could control the direction it fell by the direction I shoved it. And then physics came through with the reality check

I have the ameristep version of that cabelas hub, and a couple of the doghouse blinds....the hub blind is a sturdier structure and will take more snow load if you leave it setup during Nov but i hate the door on it....the dog house blind has a larger door entry, makes a difference with winter boots and layered up....the dog house style blind is cheaper at regular price and usually find it on sale

imo all blinds are cheaply made and sooner or later you're fixing something, broken poles from snow, stitching tears out, zippers fail...critters like chewing on the fabric, bears, moose and cattle lol

good advice above on leaving an obvious trail in the snow, or parking truck in same spot every day...two legged critters will find them, or worse you give away your hunting spot

In case you are worrying about durability and pole strength, I posted on a thread on repairing my Cabela’s hub blind with pictures and step by step process. Pretty straight forward. Two of the hub poles broke because I left it out in November because I couldn’t get out there and I had over 2 feet of snow and ice on the top of it. I purchased a centre support pole to support the top hub in case of snow and that held up perfectly well. It was just the hub poles that failed.
