LEH Reduced allocations Region 6 Moose

looking at the authorizations available in Region 6, specifically for moose, they're waaaaaay down from previous years.

Maybe I missed an earlier thread about it (not on this site much anymore) but was there any rationale given by the government about reduced allocations? From what I'm seeing locally, there's no shortage of moose.
Did BHA or BCWF push back through the Skeena Fish and Wildlife Advisory Committee? My assumption is that the reduction is political as per reconciliation objectives and the NDP being not supportive of hunting, but that's an assumption - would like to see if there's any correspondence related or if anyone has knowledge of this?

I had also heard that a survey was done in the Peace and the bull/cow ratio was unusual. anyone have any information on this?

Re: LEH Reduced allocations Region 6 Moose

In all the areas i have worked and recreated, moose appear to be up since about 2010 - 2016. Im in the bush at least 2 weeks /month jan - feb and winter is what really gives it away. Wolf tracks, kills do appear to be down and moose numbers up in at least the areas i work in region 6 and 7a. Im not a biologist so i have no data and i rarely fly in helicopters but eyes and boots on the ground is telling. Elk are also continuing to spread in many areas in region 6, i bump into them in new areas consistently now too!

I hope i am not wrong, i am very interested to see what moose counts are if they have done any in the last year.

Iv seen a good pick up in moose numbers the past few years in 6. The wolf cull helped a lot, the last 2 winters have been super mild and helped alot too. I see on the social media “guardians” are part of the moose count (6-4 vicinity), not biologists and not in favour of resident hunting, I’m not sure how “accurate” those counts were.

Allocation is being shifted away from Residents to FN as per reconciliation objectives yes.

I took a good look through synopsis when it came out, and compared to last year. On average for moose - Region 6 allocation is down across the board, 7a stayed the same, 7B is a real mix with some up and some down, 8 was a mix with some up some the same, 5 was generally down, 3 no change, 4 no change

It would be interesting to find out the allocation for FN and Guide outfitters in 6.

I'd like to see the actual allocation splits for FN, licensed residents and GO's for Region 6, as well as 7a and 7b. I was told they were going to remove the antler restrictions on bull LEH allocations in 7b, but I see they are still there. You just can't believe anything our government tells you. A lot of people are getting very frustrated with the lack of transparency with wildlife management and how they are arriving at their decisions with LEH numbers with moose.

The North American Model for Wildlife Conservation has really disappeared from wildlife "management" in BC and its sad to see.

Moose numbers are up but allocation is down? Hmmm who is running the show again? Biologists or bleeding hearts?
