    Garmin gps battery issues

I have a garmin gps 65s, it takes AAs. No rechargeable lithium ion battery. I use lithium AAs.

Last week I was on a trip and the usual I ran out of battery nothin strange there was time to change em. Then I swear I turned it off before I got back to the truck, wake up the next morning start to hike and its basically dead I thought strange because I swore I turned it off, thought must not of and it was on all night (still not long enough to be pretty much dead on brand new lithiums). Changed batteries again.

Then headin home it was off all day turn it on to check where a road is at a new area I want to scout that was on the way home and it was pretty much dead again and I knew I turned it off this time so im thinking somethings up, either that or my bino harness pocket is turning it on but it hasn't before, those lithiums are expensive.......

I bought this last September as I lost my old one Elk hunting so it aint old. Anyone else ever had problems with their garmins that take AAs and burns through batteries while off? Ill be usin it this weekend so well see what happens

Why not use rechargeable batteries? I checked out a video on the unit & it seems there are choices other than lithium exclusively. If they are dying with the unit turned off there might be an issue with the power switch or software that powers it up. If it's out of warranty, sending it in for repair is likely not cost effective. Best & easiest solution at this point might be to remove the batteries when not in use. That's generally recommended for all devices for long term storage anyway in case a battery leaks.

I've had touch screen Garmins for years & never had a similar issue with batteries dying overnight when unit is turned off. Oregon & Montana. Power button is on the side like on yours.

Rechargebles like the NiHm nickel cadmium or whatever? Not a bad idea id be saving $. I use lithiums because I buy bulk for all my t cams, they last way longer and are the cold weather batteries, they dont leak and are light as a feather when weight counts and have 20 year shelf life superior in every way it seems besides cost. But with how long they last seems it aint as bad. Garmin recommends using lithiums with this model but it has alkaline and rechargeable as options in the menu as well and you can use them. Probably should for warmer months.

Ive already taken the batteries out just so it doesnt drain them if this is happening. Could be a problem with power switch or software (beyond my knowledge) should still be under warranty hasnt even been a year. Only sh!++y thing is about sending it in is ill be without one and cant mark stuff scouting or for new areas being far back in dark. Already lost my last one in sept at night raining at 6500 ft that was a sh!tty night and lost all my valuable markers on it good thing I memorized where all my cams were.

This one and last one has certain glitches sometimes that arent good, if I was on a fly in alone and started really movin that would suck. Yours ever do anything weird besides battery?
