I have a now very dated Mammut headlamp. Low profile & uses a single AA battery. One main LED & 2 small reds. Must have some sort of voltage boost circuitry as a LED generally needs more than 1.5 volts to run. I like that it has a single switch too. Multiple presses to change mode, no fumbling around for different switches to run different colours. Model I have is no longer available, but I would recommend looking into the brand. I've used all kinds of others, mostly quite clunky in comparison & requiring multiple batteries.
I have three Fenix headlamp and insanely happy with them. My son dropped one in the ocean on Hornby, 8 feet deep, jumped in and grabbed it without skipping a beat. That was 10 years ago and it still kicks ass. Lithium batteries, insanely bright if you need it and the battery lasts a very long time. Theyre about $120 but WELL worth the money!
