The OP said they were veterans at shooting, and wanted to practice at shooting over water .
    Lots of assumptions here.
Water fowl hunters are using steel shot and a lot of the time hunting from a boat . So makes sense to practice in similar conditions with steel shot.
Maybe if more people practised in real life situations there would be less cripples.
This is good example of why members don't want to ask questions. Too many Keyboard jokeys jumping to conclusion

Can't see anyone shooting clays with steel,,,,not at $30 a box. Lead is just over a third of that. And besides shooting trap is not like shooting waterfowl. It's more like shooting pheasants where the birds most often flush just in front of you, flying away from you, like in trap. If they could shoot skeet style, now that would be far more representative to shooting ducks (hitting birds on the swing) but that would have to involve a couple of more boats to release the clays. I'd bet my last dollar they're wanting to shoot with lead.

Yes they could/should use the fish they kill but in the end they are Asian carp and an invasive specie.

Then net them. It's a FAR more efficient means to clear a system of fish than trying to shoot them with a firearm when they jump.

In Canada the government would hire foreign shooters to use prohibited firearms and pay $10K per invasive fish killed.
Knowledgeable shooters agree- The 375 Ruger is the NEW KING of all 375 caliber cartridges. ALL HAIL THE NEW KING!

It's pretty common to see guys load a dolly of clays onto their fishing boats at the Bella Coola docks......

The Ocean gets enough trash dumped into it accidently as well as carelessly, who cares if the clay or paint on them isn't toxic. Or if they use lead or steel, its still trash, as are the expended shells ejected some of which could/may/possibly be to eject overboard. It just trash that is easy to avoid dumping in the ocean.

If they are using a semi auto all their hulls will eject far away from them out onto the water unless they've installed a hull catcher on their gun. They'd have to use a dedicated trap gun-over/under or a side by side to be able to control the hulls. That said, EVERY plastic wad will be flying out into the water 25-30 yards out, though,,,,, guaranteed. In any event, the ocean can always use a bunch more plastic in it,,,,, .

Editing this now, its muddy as they updated the regulations to exempt duck hunters in subsection 101. voiding 4 and 5. hunting skeets? works for me

This got me out to post for the first time in 3-4 years. it was legal up until about 3 years ago when the New DIP S**t party introduced the following legistlation. Bill 4 2021 Firearm violence prevention Act.

this is beyond annoying had me writing MP's Letters. It was a national past time to shoot skeet and duck hunting in the Delta area. My entire family starting with grandpa. He had been doing this since the early 50's. Good luck getting it changed now its ruined.

Prohibition against discharge from vehicle or boat

5 (1) A person must not discharge a firearm in, on or from a vehicle or boat.
    (2) for certainty, this section must be construed in accordance with section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982

Unless the reg changed this year it's always been legal to shoot from a boat just as long as the motor is not engaged (not powered up) in a legal shooting area.
