    Your Hunting Gear List

As we all get ready for the upcoming spring bear season, I figured this would be a great time for some members to go over what gear they use for hunting. This can also be a good thread for members to ask for recommendations on gear to use.

Im an adult onset hunter, so slowly but surely accumulating and upgrading gear. I’ll start with the main pieces.

    Rifle:

Savage 110 Hunter. 7mm Remington Magnum. Bushnell Engage 3-9x40 Scope.

    Bow:

    PSE Fortis 33. 70lb draw.

    Optics:

    Vortex Diamondback HD 10x42 Binoculars
Vortex Viper HD 20-60x80 Spotting Scope
Sig Sauer Kilo Canyon 1000 Range Finder

    Vortex Mountain Pass Tripod.
    Phone Skope attachments for digiscoping

    Pack:

    Kuiu Pro 6000

    Bino Harness:

Kuiu Pro Bino Harness with accessory pouch and range finder pouch.

    Boots:

    Crispi Summit 2’s.

Kill kit (game bags, knives ect) All from Huto.

My next big purchases will be assembling a backcountry tent/sleep system as I look forward to doing my first full backcountry hunt in 2026. Up until now I have just been truck camping, using a Coleman 4p tent when hunting with the wife or a Eureka Midori 2P when solo. I’ll be keeping an eye on what you guys are using for your backcountry set ups.

I'm a simplistic hunter, a species capable rifle, and my fine tuned hand loads for each rifle that I carry. My buck 105 that I received as a 18th birthday present. Always have a couple kg's of cheese cloth, and usually a small tarp. I carry some 10x42 vortex binos, and all my various game calls for whatever species I hunt. I have a 3 person lightweight tent, a 8x14, 8 person tent, a 10x12 canvas wall tent, or a 26' travel trailer, depending on the hunting situation/location. I usually sport Denver hayes blue jeans, a wool stanfield, and a plaid hunting jacket. I have just started using a micro fill bass pro/Cabelas vest as a mid layer. Merino wool underwear and socks are the fanciest clothes I use. Elk tracker boots, with outdoor edge gators. I usually have a Can Am 1000 with me as well, is a hell of a game retriever. I also never ever go in the outdoors without my nylon tow rope, jack all, spade shovel, axe, chainsaw with saw tools, gas and oil. II usually take my Cabelas packboard along, but really do not like using it anymore, but If I have to I will. I just bought a new generator, Mamma likes to have AC when she comes along with the travel trailer! I have a few more items I'm going to pick up, like new rain gear, a new touque, and some new fancy sitka gloves! I'd like a yeti cooler to, but not in the budget this year! I'm sure there is other essentials I am missing, but these items are what have filled the freezer for the last 40yrs!! Moosin

    White monster is always essential!

Bino harness is a no no here. It pulls your neck down. You cannot take clothes off easily. I use bino pouch and put everthing on the extra waist belt - bino, range finder, knife, Garmin, etc. So easy with the upper body.

Shooting stick is must have, IMO. I highly recommend Blaser Carbon Fiber Shooting Stick 2.0. It instinctly makes one an excellent shooter.

    Re: Your Hunting Gear List

I use a bino harness for a couple reasons, and both types I use put the weight on my shoulders. I like how easily accessible they are, and how secure they are on your chest. I like having them with me all the time. I put my licenses and a folding knife in them. If I hunted in Alaska instead of Northern BC I would have a harness on them for a 1911.

I usually have a pack, and the bino harness works well with all of them. I use a stretchy arcane belt unless I have heavy winter pants and never put anything on my belt, it messes up the waist belt.

I have to take the pack and harness off to layer up or down, but it’s fairly easy to do and at least I have a place to store the extra layers.

Actually, all my joints are having problems now. It is genetic issue.
Bino Harness is bodyfront loaded. The back portion does not provide any counter pull. I have spent time finding useful pouches/molle on Amazon. One waist belt will hold everthing on. The whole weight of the gears are now on the hip joint, NOT on the spines. So easy for the hour long hunting/hiking. If I want to lie down on the grass etc, just release the belt buckle.
