Letter to Region 1 BCWF Reps
I am strongly opposed to the resolution to raise the age requirement for big game hunting wildlife.
1) It shouldn’t matter what other Provinces do or do not do.
2) The fact that our opportunities are shrinking shouldn’t justify forbidding a class of hunters from participating in elk and moose hunts based on age - next it could be 70 year olds can’t hunt big game either because we can’t carry a heavy load either! It is agist discrimination and not a fair justification at all.
3) Just because many kids are not ready physically and mentally ready to hunt big game does not mean that those that are ready should be punished.
4) Youth hunt require adults to be there anyway so the class of animal shouldn’t matter at all. I haven’t seen a deer in the Vancouver Island backcountry in years so I’d have to take my grandkids to other regions to hunt anyway so why not have the opportunity for moose and elk? Its crazy to think it is okay for a 10 year old to be able to hunt bear bunt not a moose or elk.
This whole resolution is just a way to appease sore losers in the LEH system. If you want to change something then change the LEH system or put forward resolutions to have the government add opportunity rather than play into their hands by screwing over one group of hunters over the others!
Frankly this resolution is BS and to reiterate I am STRONGLY opposed.
