Talk to a local taxidermist he might just give you a small bag for the purpose.
I heard some use Minwax walnut stain to do the same.

I stopped using potassium permanganate (KmNO4) decades ago...
Messy, hard to control color, unexpected and undesired results that were hard to fix....
Impossible to achieve most natural antler colors.

I have used wood stains for nearly thirty years now to stain antlers....
Want a Rosie red stain, or a dark bush buck, or a light grassland elk...
Mix and match the stains to get the color you want.
Buy a bunch of little cans, from light oak to dark walnut, get a yellow and cherry too...

Remember what that deer or elk used to stain it's antlers in the first place, wood stains....

In grade 8 we used to take it out of the science lab and pour it into the water reservoir over the boys' urinal. Then when it flushed all the water in the urinal turned purple.

I used it for staining old antlers and be warned that a liitle goes a long way.. Start LIGHT and allow it to fully dry before adding more. Too much and you will have purple antlers you can't get back..Wood stains are more predictable and give the same if not more consistent results..
