Takes 1 day of minimal effort to do a nice euro and almost zero cost using what you probably have around the house. You only get one first and one chance to preserve it. That moose can fit nicely into many different places. I know more than a few people that got lazy and regretted it later.

My guess would be 1 & 1/2 years or so...

Mount the rack close to your back door and hang hats on it...

If you are wanting to do the work yourself then it might depend on where you live. It's not tough by any means. I myself have done some deer and like to think that they are more meaningful? as I've done the work myself. but I'm a hands on type of person that way. I have a moose skull buried in the garden from this year. It takes longer than boiling but doesn't require the equipment either. A crab trap soak works great too.
My first few moose were in velvet so they weren't really keepers. I would say that euro mounts have become more popular the last 10 years or so. I wish that I kept more/ did more this way.

I got my first moose this year. It was 2x3. Paid half to a taxidermist to start a shoulder mount. Will never do any euro mount. I do not like it, my wife would be scared to see a skull on the wall.

like Husky said you only have one first, he looks like he would be a 2 1/2 year old... not many first year antlered moose are running around with brow tines. Like Ron.C. says you can always change it later.

I believe that's a 2.5 year moose. But I'm not pro, just based of moose I've seen on the ground. 100% do a euro. Our group got 2 spike forks this year and I'm doing the euros for them, now they look like 1.5 year old moose!. I did a 4 year old? last year (LEH) and it turned out great.

Re: First moose: is he worth euro mounting?

I have my biggest mulie rack as just a skull cap. It's mounted on a board with coat hooks and i enjoy looking it it just as much as a euro mount. Euro mounts are a lot of messy work so I would wait for a bigger moose to go to all that trouble.

I have a bunch of "euro" bucks in the garage that I left in the garden for a year and they look ok but I never boiled them or bleached them so the are not as nice as a well done euro. The minimum you should do is skin the skull then put it in the dirt. I've put whole heads in the ground before and the fur is tough to get off later, and gross.

I think that rack would be just the right size skull capped on a wood plaque with scalloped edges and some dark stain.
