Been pretty seriously waterfowling for about 8 years now. Shot my first banded bird today, a hen mallard. Very easy to report and get it's data. Was banded on 13 Aug 22 in Pilot Station, Kusilvak Alaska.

Banded birds are cool. The history of these birds travel is fascinating.
I live in the Okanagan and have been shooting ducks here for 50 plus years. In that time I’ve shot five banded birds all from the Hay Lake area in central Alberta. It seemed odd that they’d make a detour into central BC instead of traveling straight south.
Upon researching this a bit I discovered that David Thompson (the famous fur trader/explorer) had documented in his journals these massive flights of migratory waterfowl making a hard right around Lacombe/Red Deer and then west towards Rocky Mountain House and then some splitting down the Columbia River Valley while some headed further west into the Okanagan. This was documented in the early 1800’s so who knows how long this has been going on.
Congratultions on the band.

congrats! Been waterfowling a bit longer than you and still no bands
I got my first and only in the 70's. Not a clue where it is. I've worn out shotguns duck and geese hunting.
Keep your stick on the ice and your gun in the air! Congrats.

Look around is there someone you can introduce to shooting because that’s the only way we will buck the anti gun trend sweeping Canada! "tigrr 2006"
My very first snow goose I shot at at Brunswick Point was banded.
Congrats !!
It's always interesting hearing about the origins of the birds taken. I duck hunted seriously starting in the late 70's into the 90's. Shot a ton of ducks all over Ladner, Delta, and Surrey. Never shot a banded one.

I've had over a 1000 ducks hit the ground and haven't gotten a banded bird either. One of my partners that I hunt with regularly has gotten 2 in the last 7 years while we've been out. Luck of the draw I guess. Haven't won any 50/50 draws, forum lottery draws, any elk draws, hell,,,,I can't even win a mulie doe draw since the turn of this century when the odds are always better than 5:1! All my doe draws came out of the 80's and 90's.
That said, I did get a Royal Flush once in a game of Texas Hold'm and won some decent money out of that,,,haha.
