Are these moose droppings? And what does it mean if there's a lot in a small area?
This was at 1420 metres elevation, just North East of Oliver, BC, region 8-1. There were about 10-15 piles of droppings within a 200 metre by 30 metre area. Not very fresh-looking. Do they bed down in the same place routinely? Would you expect to find them there year after year? I'm not actually a hunter, i'm here because this site is a gold mine for info about animals, and I spend a lot if time by myself in places like this. I'm totally ignorant - trying to learn.

Not moose. Large deer, possibly elk if there's a lot in a small area. Deer are generally lone or in small groups of does, elk hang out in large herds, except the bulls.

Looks like elk. They shit ten times a day (approx) so if there is a group of cows and calf’s they don’t have to spend a long time in an area to leave a lot of sign. That looks like it’s not a large elk.
