I had quite the car stereo set up. Two 12" subs and other speakers. I opened the doors and put on Yaz. Everyone would have been able to hear it. Wasn't long when a couple half drunk people complained they can't sleep with it on. I said you didn't care about us sleeping last night so why would I care now. They saw the rifle on the hood of the car so just went back to their tent. lol I never got mad but I did get even.

Jones lake is a place I likely will never go back to. Went once, bad experience. I am not surprised as it's an easy to access location... I just wanted to try the fishing. My own fault for going in the summer.

In 2023 we decided to try it for the first and last time. The camp ground was full, that was fine. There's lots of spots around the east side of the lake. While looking for this spot we passed a camp on the side of the road that was clearly home to a family of at least 4, maybe 5. They even had cats and dogs outside. They were not in a "spot" they were on the road / side of road. Super dangerous. Especially at night. Could get driven right over.

We found a reasonable spot that I would consider had either 3 or 4 places for separate parties to stay. Two were taken, we took the third, and next most logical spot.

The people in the section beside us came over and explained there were going to have a party to celebrate a birthday and that they'd close down by 12. They said if it was going to be an issue they wanted us to know now. I told the that it was perfectly ok, not an issue. Super nice fellow. Was very polite.

We went to bed around 9pm. The other group partied a bit, it was not that loud, they shut down at 12. Around 12:30 to 1:00am I hear commotion beside our small camper I built. I looked out, saw some people moving around and ignored it, figured they were with the group of party goers.. it (quietly) lasted 5 or 10 minutes and then a car drives up beside us, people get out, they start unloading stuff. I looked out the window again and the commotion I heard earlier was them setting up two tents. One was literally 1/3rd under our awning. I think they set them up quietly hoping to get it done before we noticed. Good job.

I ended up getting out and looking around. I was shocked. They asked if it was ok that they were there. I said no, it's far too close for comfort, that they are literally under our awning. Their car was parked so close that the back hatch of the camper could not open up. I was as polite as I could be. I should have been far less polite.

Then I saw the party group waving me over. The same guy who said he'd be having a party with his girlfriend. She was so mad at these people, I guess she tried to stop them from taking that spot and told them they were encroaching on my wife and I, stood in front of their car, told them to leave. Did not work. They were apologizing to me for not stopping them.

In the morning I got up while the jerks were still sleeping. I made them get up and move their car out of the way. Then I made them move the tent that was under our awning. It was a SPARE tent to store food and gear in. They liked the spot they had it because our awning would keep any rain out... like it was going to rain that weekend. Smoke was everywhere from the wild fires.

In fact I half believe they did this to push us out, make us leave... I did not want them to "win".

Then they kept trying to talk to us the rest of the trip, like we were friends. It was super awkward.

This is why I don't normally do public sites like this, especially close to the city.

Here's a picture after they moved their stuff. This is wide angle so things are actually closer than they look.

my dad and his buddy were camping and fishing a lake near Merritt by them selves. they got back from the morning fish and were approached by a guy. The guy was very polite but said "He just so you know, there will be a pile of people showing up here tonight, its a bunch of us who live in town having a party. You can stay if you like but its gonna be loud" Dad and Don thanked the guy, but didnt forget to ask him if he had a better lake to fish. The guy pointed them to another lake, they left and went to that lake and did well..... moral is, the forest is for everyone..... just be safe and clean up....

i went up to Doran lake up Port Alberni one day.. there was 4-5 truck and campers coming down the hill with 60-70 year old people in them. i got to the lake and there was piles of garbage and shit piles all up the road. i almost shredded down the mountain to get them... but its a steep old road....

And yes, i have been stuck in a rave before in Ukee,,,, same thing it was like shopping on the beach for good shit they left. The remnants we piled up

It was like a facking zoo LOL! We hiked up our ELK spot and sat for the evening. The small trailer below us was like a highway. All these "hunters" were lining up going up and down. A few times I heard chiwawa yupping out of someone's "hunting rigs". My goodness! Who brings a chiwawa to hunt?

    Re: Party Animals

Rave party about 800km as the crow flies from our deer camp one night. I think it went until around 7am. Seemed pretty random. It was November and really rainy weather. Was curious enough I searched around social media thinking this must have been advertised somewhere? Never did find anything. That was a first and only for that area. Never happened before, never happened since.

And Jones Lake.... ugh.. yeah the fishing and crayfishing is great there but we stopped going several years ago. We used to just camp in the rec sites... the "quiet side" of the lake. I remember even with ear plugs, I could still feel my air mattress vibrating. Same thing with our inflatable boat while we were out on the lake during the day. Trolling passed there, seeing people bath in the water with suds from shampoo and bodywash everywhere... thinking that can't be good for the fish

Final straw was one day I checked out that side of the lake. There was human feces and used tampons everywhere. Thought screw it. I don't want to eat or handle fish in this lake anymore... probably catch cholera or something

The Gwen Lake incident I described in the "fear of animals vs humans" thread was another notable one. Never seen anything like that... the amount of alcohol consumed or a brawl that lasts for 8 hours. After they were gone, peeps in the rec site all helped cleanup. So many empty bottles of JD among other things. I honestly don't know how they were still alive?

These days we just try to stay away from places where a bunch of random party goers might show up. Old spur roads with aggressive cross ditches seems to do the job. If it's difficult or impossible to get to in a stock pickup truck or a Honda CRV, that will keep most of the riff-raff away.

When we do go some place peeps might randomly show up, park right next to you and start partying... we're always just ready to move out on a moments notice. For example this weekend we took the truck to east harrison. It can't really go anywhere that any other truck or SUV can't go. My wife and I are on the same page there. If a bunch of teenage party go'ers randomly show up we'll just leave. No point even lecturing them on courtesy and what not. They'll probably look for any opportunity to be tough guys and start a fight anyway. Read enough stories of this kind of stuff happening up Harrison and all the he-said-she-said stories they come up with afterwards. Not worth jeopardising your PAL over. I remember a few years back a bear hunter getting hassled by a mob of teens after one of their vehicles almost crashed into him. They all had a whole story about how he "pointed a loaded shotgun" at them which I recall fell apart pretty quickly, but still I don't need that kind of anxiety or drama.
