I forgot about this little gem. My brother had it and it used to belong to my grandpa and has made its way into our hands. Its a cooey 16 gauge single shot with a full choke. Can any of you offer up a suggestion for what size lead shot I should be putting through this for grouse?

I am on the same boat. I have a pointer… we both are learning. It flushes more than points but I am having a heck of a good time plus rabbits often come out as well.

I use 7.5 in my 12g single shot FC.

Can use 6 too if your shooting farther.

Pattern it with both at your expected distances.

I got everything they had at the gunstore which is number 6. It was an easy choice

I think I have things dialed in for what I’m looking for now. Double barrel, preferably side by side. 410, maybe 28 gauge. Non-exposed hammers, double triggers. Removable chokes. Has to be wood. No ejectors.

I think I’ll setup the main barrel for flyers at a bit more of a distance and the rear trigger for the closer stuff where they’re stationary in trees and I have some time not to destroy meat.

I’ve been messing with that crack barrel the last few times out. At first I was carrying it open, but after being slow to shoot I started closing the action. My next flyer I tried to cock the hammer fast but was pulling on the open lever with my gloves and missed another.

Upland hunting on a dog in the thick bush is the most fun you can have with a firearm i think.

Would be a fun gun to shoot but just prepare yourself to pay twice as much for a box of shells,,,,,and that's if you can find them in the load that you want. Remember,,,,with double barrel guns you can select which barrel you want to shoot first. Don't need a double trigger to do that.

Personally, I hate the thick bush when hunting upland birds because it makes it too difficult to see the dog. When they go on point you might not even know it. They could be as little as 10 yards away in thick cover locked up solid waiting for you to go flush the bird but you'd be none the wiser. I much prefer more open country that's just bushy enough for the birds to hold.

Huglu is one of the better Turkish manufacturers and CZ backs it up.Weatherby imported good ones ,too. But you pay for back up . Doubles are much harder to make than semis and pumps because the barrels have to be regulated , e.g. shoot in the same direction. So it's not good to go cheap on a double. They also wear out quick. When you shot even a couple of boxes at trap for practice, the number of rounds add up quick. The traditional advice on shotguns is whatever fits, no matter the brand. Most new shotguns come with shim kits. Look for that. Wood stocks are more easily modified to fit than plastic

Tristar imports from various manufacturers from junk to quality.
