Hey Everyone,
Just looking for recommendations based on experience for different mapping apps. I used FATMAP previously which is no longer and looking for something similar. Good 3D topography, trails, offline maps a must.
Thanks in advance.

I don’t think there is one map that does it all. I use a few different ones. FATMAP is great. Google earth and have been using OnX this year. It’s a little pricey cause you gotta buy elite to get Canada, but it has lots of good features. My biggest problem is every single mapping app, imaging seems to be 5+ years old. They all need to step up there game and update the imaging. Especially when they want you to pay $40+ a year for a subscription. If any knows of an app with recent imagery, let me know.
Gaia GPS is pretty nice: https://www.gaiagps.com/map $60/year for offline maps. Topo and logging roads feel accurate and current
iHunter is also great. https://www.ihunterapp.com/ again, paid pro version for offline but now also includes carplay.
I use a dedicated handheld Garmin GPS with Topo Canada. My version is quite dated but the relevant Topo data shouldn't change unless there's an earthquake haha. Or a landslide mebbe...
I do use several phone apps too, cause I generally have that along, but phone is fragile vs the gps handheld.
I use OSMAnd mostly. Minor flat fee upfront to download all the offline maps and topo lines you can fit in your phone. I regularly update the openstreetmap data, and changes are quickly reflected in the app maps. And they recently added 3D.
Avenza PDF maps is what I use for work in the bush. The free version allows you to use up to 3 maps. If you want a new map simply delete an old one and activate the new one. You just can’t have more than 3 active on the free version.
My work supplies me with maps but I’m sure there are plenty to buy or download free to the public.
You can also track and drop pins in Avenza. You can upload these into google earth or make layers in google earth and upload these to Avenza.
If you want to do even more you can download layers from the BC gov data warehouse, upload these to GE, and then upload to Avenza
I recently use the Gaia GPS app. Worked out real good, recommend it. It offers a free 7-day trial for the premium service, which is needed for offline maps.
The issue with Gaia is that it doesn’t support 3d imagery for offline use on iPhones. At least that’s my issue
I think it's Gaia that also put your profile as public without your permission so better turn that off.
