Mabel Lake and surrounding area

I am going to help out a fellow that recently moved up that way late next week, never been up that way really, passed through… any elk spots nearby to go explore? I would love to extend the trip but have nowhere to start? Any tips would be sweet

I hunt there a couple times in the fall. Only seen whitetails (buck and doe) and mule deer doe, not seen elk or elk signs. Grouse number was good last year, not sure about this year as I did not hunt in region 8 this year.

Not sure about elk but it's a beautiful area. Rumour has it there's a herd near Lumby, also the Rutland area outside Kelowna. Last time I hunted there was some years ago. There's a pretty good FSR network but the terrain rises steeply up from the lake so it can be gnarly. Snow can come early at elevation too, winter tires a must, chains might be needed too. There was active logging when I was up there so driving conditions were pretty good.

Above Mabel Lake, late November 2015, almost 10 years ago haha. I was a relative newb at pursuing antlered critters. Drove up way too high, all the critters were likely down in the valley. I had my ski touring gear along. No deer, oh dear but it was a lovely afternoon in the sun & snow.
