    2024 Interior Upland Reports

Thought it'd be fun to hear from the bird hunters throughout the season how it's been going, how the dogs are doing and share some stories! We are headed out around the Kamloops area for Grouse on Tuesday, just can't decide which road to take... may be a game time decision. The dogs are excited! Is anyone else headed out to chase birds on Tuesday?

I hunt them without a dog . I hunt small logging roads .
My best labrador passed away few years ago . Great dog . I used him mostly for pheasant. Grouse I found usually flush too far away and into dense cover with a flushing dog.
I went out and shot a blue and a ruffy .
Went out again and the numbers seem low . I hunted near monte lake .

Don't hunt them specifically, a byproduct of my hunts for large game. Haven't seen many grouse this year in the areas I frequent, mostly Region 8 MUs, but not far from either 3 or 4.

I've been out 4 or 5 times now, training my new dog and am seeing decent numbers of grouse around reg 3, haven't come home empty handed yet. Seen a few hare out there too!

I haven't been out yet but Son hits the hills between Princeton and Tulameen and has had great success, bag limits every time with the odd bunny thrown in. Dog - he hunts and fishes with his Cairn Terrier. Go figure.

    Re: 2024 Interior Upland Reports

Been out 7 times since the opening on September 10th and have managed to shoot limits on each outing but the numbers are down somewhat compared to the last few years due to the very wet, cold spring we had but this is nothing new,,,,,happens every few years.

Seeing a lot more spruce grouse than ruffies,,,, just a few blues which are always pretty scare at the elevation I hunt grouse. Family groupings are smaller this year,,,,have only been seeing groups of 4-5 at the most.

I find the grouse hunting in the thicker older growth forests on the logging roads in Region 3 and 8 where I tend to hunt is more retrieving practice than hunting/pointing work but my griff loves it just the same. You can easily get away with not hunting grouse with a dog but I much prefer it,,,,,they really shine when it comes to getting shot birds that have fallen down steep ravines which I'd never be able to get to. You'll never lose a bird with a good dog!

I must admit I do love watching the dog work an area and then go on point but as mentioned most of the birds we get are spotted and shot on decommissioned logging roads but I make the dog retrieve everyone while I hang back.

    On point:

    Some retrieves:

    Some limits:
