Sadly, it will take 20 years, but when the FN have decimated all of the moose, elk, salmon, etc. populations in areas where the government has buckled and chosen propaganda and rhetoric of science, what is going to be the excuse then? Can't blame the whities anymore but I am sure, somehow we will still be blamed. When I see declarations in our hunting synopsis that say "These First Nations have existed for time immemorial in this area..." "Please respect the land by leaving your campsites clean and free of garbage and avoid using traditional camp sites and cabins. If you encounter Indigenous land guardians during your travels treat them with respect as they fulfill their duties as stewards of the land and our partners in resource stewardship." it hurts to the core of my existence. Donald Trump couldn't tout a bigger lie that this drivel and we all know it...the government too! Where do we come up with this garbage.

BTW, Time Immemorial means "a phrase meaning time extending beyond the reach of memory, record, or tradition". So basically, we are stating the FN existed for time immemorial, sure that may be true. They existed, but it doesn't mean all of their claims to traditional lands, hunting and fishing traditions, etc. are accounted for and recorded. My viking ancestors existed since time immemorial too...surely doesn't give me inherent rights all over the globe.

Here is my proposal to honour FN traditions:
    - When hunting outside our prescribed hunting seasons (FN must hunt with longbow, slingshot, and horse or on foot). No rifles, no cars, quads, snowmobiles or anything else the white man brought over).
    - If we are limited to hunting areas that have no road access, then FN should be restricted as well. They can't use roads we built through logging, mining, or other.
    - When fishing (nets are fine so long as you're using handmade nets). No motorized boats (rowboats and canoes are fine).

This is a simple change that would enhance animal populations everywhere, level the playing field, and bring modern-day FN far more in touch with their ancestors traditional way of hunting. How proud they'd be and we'd be!
If you are FN and would prefer to hunt using modern tools and equipment, by all means, just be limited to our same hunting seasons and regulations. One set of rules for all.

If you're a politician, all I can say is Grow a Pair before it's too late. If you really care about hunting, fishing, and steward of our beautiful province, then bring us together, treat us fairly and equitably, and amazing things will be achieved! If you are FN and disagree, then I do not believe you are a steward of the land, nor do you honour your forefathers. I love this land and hope we can find a way forward that is based on truth and equity for all...before there is nothing left. Right now we are in a race to the bottom and hope for my kids' future is looking pretty abysmal these days.

Thanks TeeVee and others. I have no doubt this is a common sentiment by the vast majority of us hunters, fisherpeople, and any general outdoorsperson. So what can we do about it? Yes we can write letters to our local MLAs, and yes, we can vote for the party who at least pretends to have a backbone. Maybe one day we'll have a voice that matters, but IMO politicians have gotten too good at peddling lies and false promises only to buckle to the biggest lobbyist groups and other influencers that will help advance their political careers and agendas. Can we find anyone in media that actually knows how to conduct true journalism that would actually investigate these regulation changes and the pandering to FN? If anyone on this site knows a good journalist, I'm happy to connect to see if we can shake the tree. I can give them plenty of evidence and data that will illustrate the level of corruption and hypocrisy in our government.

And to anyone in politics or government that is also a hunter/fisherperson that also is frustrated by our lack of science-based regulation (and de-regulation), I ask that you take a stand to make a difference. Explain to your cohorts how buckling to FN demands that have no place in reality and no merit, does the opposite of reconciliation. You are not bringing us together. You are only driving a bigger wedge that will ultimately destroy they vary lands and wildlife we all enjoy and wish to steward beyond time immemorial.
