Dog found after being lost in Chilcotin River landslide, officials confirm

"We are happy to share that the dog, Seko, has been located and is in the process of being reunited with its family. We’ve had our hopes up for this guy and want to share in the relief that what little luck exists with this event has been on the side of those being impacted by this disaster."

Looking at it and having passed by there many times, it seems to me a small lake in that area would be good for the surrounding land.

I would think from the length of the debris field it is not likely to wash away very quickly so if there are enough large boulders, trees and junk to hold the smaller stuff in place it could be a positive for the arid area and provide a holding spot for the water flow as it rushes to the ocean. Hopefully they leave it to nature to present it's own solution rather than use it as another reason to collect more taxes.

Would be nice to see some locals put up a bunch of internet cameras watching it all happen. I bet they could make some money with video sales...

Excellent opportunity for the Canadian Airforce to show what they are capable off or not !

Wait and do nothing is probably the worst decision.

Be prepared that they may have to close Highway 97.

    Cheers

Wait and watch is the only thing to do. You watch to many movies, blowing things up would have done nothing. A million pounds of explosive wouldn't scratch the service.

What caused the slid? Natural forces, this is how every river and creek valley is formed. Continental collisions and volcanoes build mountains, rivers tear them down. We're just here to watch and try to stay out of the way.

    Re: Chilcotin Slide

I have experienced what massive Ice Jams (but nothing nearly on the scale of the Chilcotin Dam) can do when the let go. This "Lake" could easily grow over the Winter into the next freshet. Yes there will be overflow once the Water reaches the current top of the Dam but brutal Winter temperatures which the Chilcotin is know for will only ad to the problem with an Ice Jam on top of the current Crest. Once the Dam lets go the Avalanche of Debris may couse additional Dams in the narrow Canyons of the Fraser River possibly making Highway 97 and the Rail System inoperable. What that would mean to the Economy of BC I don't even want to imagine.
Doing nothing but sit and wait and hope for the best is the typical reaction of the Socialist mind.

true, and if you look at the geography along that river you can see old scars where the same has happened in the distant past.

Not sure if it is possible to make a manmade channel through the dam with explosives, but you would think a timed release of the backed up water would be better than an unknown time .

Nobody in his right mind would go near let alone onto this unpredictable Dam.
The only safe way is a full blown sustained Bomb run as they did during the second World War.
That is if that TrFre Duo in Ottawa has left enough in the Canadian Stockpile instead of squandering them on a unwinnable War !
