    Down jackets

Looking for recs on down puffy’s. I’ll be doing some tree stand hunting in Alberta end of November and want to make sure I don’t freeze. I’ll be layering it under an SG Grumman and over a fleece and some merino base layers. I’ve been looking at the SG Grumman, Kuiu Superdown Pro, Rab Electron Pro and Montbell Alpine jacket. They all seem pretty comparable with comparable fill weight etc. Hoping someone can provide some real world opinions.

Hands, feet and face are likely a bigger issue.

I have excellent gloves and headwear, boots for sure I’ll pick some good ones up.

My hands always get cold — hand warmers might come in handy just in case.

Wouldn’t putting it under something compress the down and make it not as warm?

Good point. I suppose then I’d put it over the de havilland jacket if that’s the case.

I layer my down jackets when I'm sitting in the blind/stand, just sized appropriately so they aren't compressed too much...wool base layer, xl down jacket with no hood, xxl down with hood, xxl fleece over layer....works well for me, and can adjust layers as needed for hike in/out.....some of the largest hand warmers work well inside the jacket and legs against your base layers, keeping your core warm goes lengths to keep your toes warm

    Re: Down jackets

For late season long sits I'd want something heavier than the ~5oz fill weight category. I've got a Rab neutrino pro that's quite a bit warmer than the grumman. Also note there's a difference in the way European companies qualify their down fill vs North American, so European 800 fill is equivalent to NA 850 fill.

The First lite Chamberlin would be another one I'd look at. The MEC Apex St Elias parka looks like it would be a good option as well, especially for the price if you aren't super pressed about colour, and they have your size.

I run the Kuiu super down pro.
it is warm as can be but very expensive and no warranty.

my buddy just picked up the SKRE down and it it likely 80% as good at a fraction of the price with a lifetime warranty.
if I were to buy again I’d grab the SKRE down top and bottom without second thought
