    Big Game- Burns lake area

    Hello fellow hunters,

my daughter and I have the opportunity to hunt moose, deer, and black bear in the Burns Lake area but I have never been in this area before. This will be my daughter’s first chance so I want to make it the best one. Any pointers, suggestions, comments are welcomed.

Moose like to hang around water, so look for them near creeks and lakes.

Excuse me but moose are LEH. So you have to disclose what area around Burns Lake you have the LEH.

Moose hunting around Burns Lake aint what it use to be. Where are you headed? I've hunted all over that area.

Hunting around Burns today, seen crows 100 yards off the road in a block, found this, not an uncommon find really.

Feel free to pm with the zone you have a moose leh for and I’ll try and steer you in the right direction. Moose are around but as 180 mentioned, it’s not what it once was for moose hunting between stuff like the photo and forest fires.

A shame yes! Looks like a wolf kill to me from the pic though.
I remember being woken to a chaotic howling pack on a freak -15 freeze in early march, with 3' of snow on the ground, in bulkley country in the early 80's. Me and my bud chased after them at sun rise with, at the time, our fearless 22 repeaters. We were able to walk around on top of the snow like the wolves did. After we caught up to their tracks and followed them, we came across 5 of their kills before giving up. They were pleasure killing! After taking down the moose, they would go in through the stomach cavity and only pull out the organs. It appeared as though they just tossed them around on top of the layer of ice in play before eating only that and moving on to the next one. We started breaking through the crust around noon so quickly high tailed it back home as the 22's didn't seem as fearless anymore.

Just hunted in 6-06 for 8 Days on a LEH , I have hunted this area since the late 70's , seen only one Bull on the move across the Augier Main could not get a shot away , I have never hunted there without seeing many moose they are sure not around this year this is the fewest I have seen many years , But the weather !!!! Rain , Rain Rain !!!!!! just terrible weather and the roads are muddy and slick , going back to moose camp tomorrow to put in another week and hopefully fill the tag.
