has anyone ever used a .22 to hunt turkey with?

In the regs. its says you can but I heard from a guy that turkey are really hard to shoot because if you don't get a head shot the turkey are tough and will just fly away

anybody heard anything different about turkey hunting would a shotgun still be my best bet
even if I believe I'm a good shot with the .22

a buddy at work doesn't even own a shotgun and he always seems to get a bird in the spring, i think he has an old cooey .22.

I have, shot a couple with stingers. But mostly used a 22mag. And one with 12. Found one with a 22 bullet in his breast too, I'm guessing from a shot more than about 50 meters.

Head shot with 22 LR is the only way to be sure they're going down, I did have a friend that had to take a body shot on a turkey and had to hit it 7 times.

Shotgun for me, I'm going to try the bow this spring but you have to be carful with bow's too because they'll run away with your arrow

I have found em to be real tough birds! Take only a deadly shot if using a .22

One of the regulars I hunt in the Christian Valley with bought a .17 HMR for turkeys as the last one he shot with a .22 flew away BUT and a big BUT he hasn't shot a turkey with the .17 yet. So that is my two pesos worth.

The turkey I shot this spring had a 22 bullet between the skin & meat on its outside leg. They are VERY tough birds.
On a special note - I now know the owners daughter, of the land where the turkeys fly down from the roost in the morning. Im gunna BLAST me a bird this spring. Only 117 days til they open.

Have you not watched the Yanks shooting Turkeys on those Hunting shows........nothing short of a 32" barreled, full choked 3-1/2" Magnum from a 12 Gauge will down a Turkey !

Preferably a semi auto too for the fiesty ones....
