The fuel pump sacked out. Pretty strange. Never had to do one on the 2014 that now has 20000kms on it. The newest one is a 2019 with about 11000kms. The Yamaha parts department said they don’t sell barely any fuel pumps. They thought maybe bad fuel, but I don’t use tidy tanks, and I don’t fuel up in tiny towns with old rusty tanks and questionable fuel, and I fuel them both usually at the same time. Oh and BTE the older one is better on fuel and has more power too. Go figure.

If the world is warming why are there so many new snowflakes?
If we are all equal why do you demand special treatment?
LOL... I love the Yamaha testimonial... "I can pull out my other broken down Yamaha with it, Honda couldn't do that!"
Maybe the Honda wouldn't need to!
Just kidding around, all these break down at times. Honda has the reputation not to, but of course everything can.
My new Rubicon has recoil start too.
Haha, I knew it was coming…….. so to be fair the testimonial was about having more power. Now to be clear I think they all used to be more reliable when they were made in Japan, all of them. The china effect has pretty much infiltrated all the brands in one way or another, especially on the fit and finish and the plastic and stickers.
I did recently read that Kawasaki had the highest consumer satisfaction rating, I can’t remember if it was for all their products or just UTVs. The brute force platform has been around for ever and remains pretty much unchanged……. Kinda like good old hondas, Yamahas and old Toyotas. Maybe its still the exact same version that was originally made in Japan???? Food for thought….

HMMMMMM never ever ...ever...never... a belt drive...35 years of Hondas has spoiled me..why get a belt drive and practice walking out/home...if it aint broke dont fix it
if you have to fix it..probably a belt drive..RJ..
cheers
Steven
2008 Yamaha's,,have 4 of them, original belts, never slipped or broke, 7000kms on 2 of them, 6000 ish on the other 2, no issues at all
Snowmobiles put a bazillion kms on belt drive every year. The new belts will go almost forever "if you" put it in low when needed. Slow trails, mudding, loading ramps, etc
ATVs are the same as cars good years and bad.
No one on their death bed ever said; I should have spent more time at work.
The concept of the Hondas interest me, as I drive a gutless Toyota for function and reliability.
but the base model rancher 420 with no diff lock and crappy tires and a winch added comes in at the same price exactly as the Yamaha kodiak 700 special edition. And the bare bones foreman foot shift SRA with a winch and crappy tires comes in 300 cheaper then the grizzly 700 special edition camo here in grande prairie.
seems like you get way more features for your money going Yamaha. I recently went to do another round looking at them and it was only -15 and the Honda dealer said the foreman was out back because it wouldn’t start from the cold. Went over to Yamaha kicked snow off the Kodiak and it started up. Anyone have cold start issues with Hondas?

nice! That’s the stuff I like to read. Hoping to get a long life out of what ever machine I choose. My last kodiak was base model no diff lock or eps , didn’t even have a steering wheel cluster for miles or hours, had the 700 Subaru engine. Went everywhere I needed and always started , even -30. The Subaru engine ran hot I’m glad they went back to Yamaha engines 686cc I believe

I have done one belt and it probably didn’t really need it. It was in an 20 year old kodiak that my fat assed ex BIL swamped and then he was reving the shit out of it and wondering why it wasn’t going anywhere. I took the clutches apart to clean all the mud and sand and water out of them and re-grease all the weights and thought since I had it all apart I might as well do the belt as the atv probably had about 25k on it( old ones don’t have an odometer). The yamaha dealer said they never sell belts.
Apparently you can put the belt in the dish washer and they come out like new.
Anyways if you get water over the rack it can travel down the V belt cooling duct and the belt can slip. The fix is to open the drain cock and gently rev it up in neutral after its drained to fling off the water from the belt and shives and then close the drain plug and carry about your day, or don’t drive in water up the the front rack. Simple for both options.

It was my experience surveying in the oil fields for 11 years that the hondas usually started even when it was close to minus 30 and the Yamaha 700s were tapping out for starting about -25. If we new it was going to be super cold we would put them in the heated shop and start them in the morning and leave them running on the deck. This was only when there was not enough snow to run snowmobiles where start in -29 with out issue usually. That is really cold to be outside in all day.
Potentially the battery on the honda was low from sitting out side for months?
If Im camping lates season I put a tarp over the atv when I park it and burry the sides with snow and in the am it fires right up without a stumble. You don’t want a dead horse 40kms from the truck in -29.
