Finally a day off....So I'm heading out on the salt chuck tomorrow morning.

Well I've been kind of bumed out that the Salmon seson is close to half done and I have yet to get out. I have been working like a dog, 13hours a day six days a week and spending Sundays with the wife and children (if I didnt spend my only day off with the family I would be divorced). So I'm going to book off work early today (only worked 12 hours today) and pick up some new teaser heads, some anchovies and tie up a few hooks (oh yeah, dont forget the Lucky Lager). Then out first thing tomorrow morning. We will see.......I've heard that there is lots of bait idown n the south island and my old man has been telling me that the fishing hasnt been that good down there in two decades. We will see how it is up here. There hasent been much on the northend for big springs so far this year...til I get out there. Hopefully I will have a picture or two for you of a North Island Slab.........stay tuned.

Well.........disapointed. We went out at 5am and stayed out til 5pm. I saw one guy loose a Coho, and another guy land a small spring, maybe 25lbs tops. I was only able to hook two Coho of which I let the fist guy go as he was about 8lbs and he was also the first bite. I kept the second Coho, though it was smaller than the first (only 6lbs) and a hatchery, as it was towards the end of the day and the only other hit I had was a jack spring.
I am not going to be able to get out until probably the end of August now when I head out to either Quatsino (where they are slaying slabs at the moment) or Nootka. We will see what happens....link to picture attached (finished Coho fillets vacuum sealed and ready for the freeezer).

Seems to be quite a familiar tune, it's either hot or it's not.
    Gotta love the vacuum sealer

Yeah true...a guy havs to keep an ear to the ground. The vacuum sealer sure keeps it tidy and saves tonnes of room.
