Season opener Bull Elk double header

My partner and I had some answers mid morning but could not bring anything close to us. So we made the decision to go to them even though recovery could be tough. We went 700 yards down a river bank then 400 yards up the other side. We set up in old growth aspen and I cow chirped and one bugles right on us. He wouldn't show him self and was in thick stuff. So I put my bugle under my arm and faced it backwards and let out a hi pitch squeal. Now my partner and I agreed if it was smaller than what I have shot before he could take his first bull, and if it was huge I would take it. The bull came crashing out at 30 yards and was huge and no question to either us it was my shot. So I chirped and got a quick rib shot before he bolted. As I shot a couple cows spooked on the ridge and filed down in front of us at 80 yards with a young bull behind them. A chirp stopped him and my partner said 4 at least and got his bull. His was a 4x5 and mine was a main frame huge 6 with twin brow stickers over an inch to make him a 7x7 and my personal best elk. We had an up down 1km river bank hike ahead of us. So it took two more days in horrible rainy weather with the help from his boy and nephew to pack out the full heavy quarters. After a short distance we realized taking the shoulder off the big ones fronts would be easier and it was. The big one weighed 495 and the smaller one was 345 on the meat cutters scale
