    October Elk Hunting

    Just curious how many of you guys/gals go out later in the season. I won't be able to make it to my elk spot in September this year, but I can swing a quick trip in the first week of October. Never been after them later in season and being a novice elkaholic I don't really know what to expect.

    I'v talked to different guy's that have had screaming bulls in the middle of Oct., 2nd rut? I saw a photo of a bull way over 400 in.that these guys called into 25yds. Moose have a 2nd rut why not ELK?

    In October they tend to be on the move headed for wintering areas. It can be one of the best times to hunt if there is early snow.

    October is a great time to call in screaming bulls.

    My two west kootenay bulls were taken oct.13. First one bugled in with another 6x no cows with em. Second was cow called in away from his 13 cows. Bugled another in for a buddy oct.10, he had 3 cows with him...
    The only advantage to a light rifle is it's weight, all other advantages go to the heavier rifle..
