Giant elk coming back to Pitt

Here's an interesting story on BCWF's site:

    http://www.bcwf.bc.ca/s=203/bcw1102053413000/

I had heard they were thinking of re-introducing some elk to the lower mainland, I guess they are actually going to do it now.

I need some info from those of you that use crossbows. We have had one guy up here that has wounded and lost 3 elk, he was useing a 60# pull crossbow. One of the elk had three bolts in it. He was finally given permission to use a rifle to kill it. There is a lot of pissed of hunters up here that are wondering why he was allowed to hunt in different areas other than that which his LEH was valid for.... The area biologist is a friend of his ???We are asking the Govt. for a report on this bullshit. Also we are going to ask the BCWF to look into this

Not sure what you are asking but a 60 pound crossbow is not ver heavey for a large animal like an elk. The bolts are not heavey enough for good penetration. They have speed but no momentum. A loaded gravel truck doing 15 miles an hour that runs into a brick wall will do a lot more damage than a Volkswagen bug doing 20 miles an hour will.
And the further away from the target the less penetration.

Sometimes it pays to have low friends in high places. Kind of cool they got caught.

Coaster, phone the CO, the guy was hunting illegally, plain and simple. For big game you must use: A) regular crossbow no less than 150# pull
    B) compound crossbow no less than 100 # pull

Hope you get to the bottom of this issue, if he was hunting elk with a 60# crossbow he has not only brokn the law, but he's also an idiot as it would have an effective range of about 10 yards tops.

I total agree with WillyQ about the hunting tackle, I believe the guy should have his hunting privlegdes lifted for a time and/or charged if he is hunting with such a lite weight crossbow. This guy just does not understand how to use a crossbow and bolts, the fact is he is using illegal tackle.

I didn't even know they made 60# crossbows? But what do I know.
