Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
Here's the post for your comments and pictures.
The BIG 25 BC Bird Slam
A group of active waterfowlers on this site have put together a list of waterfowl that can be found in BC. For this BC Bird Slam we wanted it to be achievable in one season. Sept 2013 - March 2014. There are 4 separate categories that are possible to complete. Dabblers, Divers, Sea Ducks, and Geese. This contest is designed to help people try hunting new species or meet new people to share hunts with.
The BC GRAND SLAM includes the 6 bonus ducks. The first person to post up all 31 species will be automatically crowned the winner. But that is very unlikely to happen in one season.
The person with the most species (drakes) at the end of the season (verified with proof of pictures) will win the title of "The Baron" of BC Birds. (or Baroness). There will be an award of some kind that will be posted when confirmed but the idea of this event is to keep it friendly and fun for those participating and those following along.
Remember, this is about getting out there and enjoying all different kinds of waterfowl hunting. British Columbia has one of the most diversified species of waterfowl in Canada to hunt. Take advantage of the opportunities out there and share your experiences with fellow HBCers.

There may be a few tweaks to the list but for the most part this is how it will look.

You must also submit your pictures as the season goes along. No sandbagging and posting them all up near the end of the season! First person posting up a completed list will be declared the "Baron of BC Birds".

Re: Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
25 drake species will be incredibly tough. Some of them I've never even seen before. But as this is my third year waterfowling. I'll try.

We got one a few years back to. Only one ive ever see in hand though. I just wanted to add one suggestion/request that all pictures used for verification must have something to prove its from this year. Putting up a 1 and 3 (for 2013) would solve that.

I plan on going to the mainland for my divers as we don't get many other then bluebills over here. But I think I have the sea ducks wrapped up pretty good.

If you want proof Lorne then print a copy of this post and put it in the pic

Re: Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
Not that good a bird hunter so an islander can show me how it's done on mainland. ;)

If you guys agree, how about 3 fingers out in a picture or put 3 shells in the picture if its a picture of birds only.
A few more points, those who are in declare so when they post their first picture. This is a fun activity for the site, you are on your honor to post up only birds you shot yourself. I'm not a judge but if guys start questioning posts or there's conflicts, I'll have to shut it down. If your buddy takes one of the rarer birds post anyway and give them credit. It's always cool to see the rare birds and it will inspire others to get out looking for them. Lastly, don't hold back your pictures. It will be better if everyone can follow along all season.
For the newer hunters who sign up, post up your first double, triple, limit or whatever and I'll note it in your list.
When you post up your first picture and declare it in the Slam, I'll copy it and paste it in the locked thread and future updates to your list.
Good luck everyone!!!
I should also add here the Waterfowl Slam was suggested by Kudu(if I remember correctly); Big Boar, and Lorne Parker and many others on the site posted up ideas on different ways to do this and I think this format should work well. At the end of Brant season we'll see what changes (if any) can be implemented for next year.

All you Up-Islanders, Brit, Fatso and whomever else if you are going to kill those poor fish ducks you better be eating them!!!
Not "kosher" to blast something just to enter a contest and pretend you're the best waterfowler in Shangri-la??
Cheers---Field Marshal.

Re: Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
I second Field Marshall's post.

Re: Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
Just because you old *******s aren't good enough to even compete in an event of this magnitude doesn't mean you have to throw stones!
I will eat them raw on rice
P.s I am the best waterfowler in Shangri la!
Good luck tomorrow beauties!

Good job!! Your fields don't look as muddy as ours!! We managed to get Kyle"s truck stuck but seeing as he's a tough logger, his
ingenuity got us unstuck!!!---Cheers---Field Marshal.

Re: Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
Coulda had a couple Snows, but it didn't pan out. Coulda had about 15 more cheeks and another 8 duck but some peoples children are touched in the head.

Re: Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
Looks like you guys had a great day!
That three sign you're throwing up makes you look like some kind of rural gang.
-
Re: Waterfowl Slam 2013-2014
I have decided that after the non stop comments/harassment ( cant blame them) from my friends about the gang sign, we will be putting 3 shells in the pictures for the slam

As far as the day goes it was far more frustrating then it should have been, but we came away with my first snow, my first quad on geese, and 3 birds a piece for the slam. Along with several "WTF's" "are you kidding me's" and some wholesome laughs
