Very nice.

Did you do the Euros yourself?

If so, how long is the ideal boil time?

Nice. I think they look better than a head mount

Did the mounts myself. Didn't boil them just left them in a bucket of water till they rotted out. When you boil them the nasel bones can break off very easily. I found mascertion is the best method. Then 2 weeks in dawn dish soap / water to degrease thougholy. these mounts are 2 or 3 years old now and very white!

Awesome euro's! Thanks for the tip on just leaving them in water with some dish soap. I'll definitely try that out.

The brows on that whitey are insane!! Cool buck for sure. Any story - or did you post that already? Any field pics?

The short story I had hunted this guy for three days saw him the first, shot his antlers the second day thinking i would never see him again but I caught up to him on the third day and was able to take him. It was in SK at my cousins ranch. That is why the orange coveralls

How long does the imaseration take
do you scrape the brains out first or can you just skin it and let it rot
ive got an elk to do and don't like the idea of boiling

Count me in as being very interested in any more info that can be shared. I've got my recent buck's head in the freezer waiting for the proper process. Last year I let a buck's head boil too long and it got too soft. Then I put it outside to dry and it was gone the next day. I suspect the neighbour's ******ed dog. :)

It took 6 months because I left them in the garden shed over the winter so they had to thaw and keep rotting, but if you can keep the temp at about 25C - 30C then it takes 2 weeks.
Change the water every couple weeks and remove any loose tissue you can. The inside roof of the mouth takes the longest to come off for whatever reason. Water will not hurt the bone, the other advantage of a long soakis the grease inside the bone also rots and migrates out of the bone, if you notice a lot of diy euros have grease staining. I haven't had the same issues with this method, just make sure to degrease with dawn and water solution for a couple weeks after maceration is complete.

I take a twig and stir up the brains and try to pull as much of them out as possible then take a garden hose if possible to wash the cavity out as best you can.

This method stinks but has the best results as the nasel bones are left perfectly intact.

If I was let me know which issue. I submitted a story to them but was never told if it was published. Hunting fool did published the story in the end though.

Maceration is by far the best way to make a good looking euro mount. I followed this guide and turned out with a nice mount of my own.

Ya I read this awhile back it is one of the better how to articles on the subject. One thing to watch for is if using the fish tank heater you need to really monitor the bucket. My buddy did this and "cooked" his skull by aciident and permenently blackened it for lack of a better word. His skull is kind of a greyish color now and peroxide wnt cut it all

Here is one I just finished the other day and hung on my wall. Never had a problem with boiling. I scrape off most of the meat and put it in a simmering pot of water and monitor (about 45min -1hr). I am constantly looking at it and pulling chunks of meat off. When the meat/gums from the roof of the mouth start separating from the skull its pretty much done. Made up my own steel mount as I want to be able to pull the skull off when ever I want so you can hold the horns in your hands.

To tell you the truth, although I have always wanted a sheep Euro, I was probably going to shoulder mount this one even though there are a few already on the wall. But hunt circumstances made the choice for me:(. Happy with how it turned out.

Well, I've been all hot to trot on learning this process, but I've just been informed by the 3 females in the house that they don't want "the head part" in our living room, "just the antlers". Seems like it might be a few years before I do any Euros.

On another note, I really should compliment the photographer who shot the photos in the original post; they are excellent. Obviously someone who does a lot of shooting and knows how to use their gear very effectively. It gives me the itch to get the 5D and a handfull of lenses out...
