Havent posted any pics or stories in the past but enjoy looking and reading everyone posts. I thought it was about time to share this weekends adventure.

I had the weekend off so my hunting partner and I went looking for a mulie buck. We drove around all day looking high and low with no luck. Had a great day anyway catching up with a good friend. The day ended with everyone a little disappointed, but thats hunting.
Next day:
Got up extra early to get out in the back country. I was completely by myself today hunting. Got to a spur that I was thinking about all night, only to find someone that blocked the enterance of huge clearcut valley. No way of getting around the vehicle. I ended up turning around and finding a new area, needless to say I was bummed out. Drove down the road, didnt see a thing, I thought to myself "I should make the best of this hunt and try a little hiking in area I thought would produce". I parked the truck, laced up my boots and off I went hiking. I was 50-60 meters from the road and came across this fella. All I saw was horns, pulled up the rifle, he started to run. The rifle barked, the bullet hit its mark. Game over. Dead critter not more than 75 m from the truck, I drove past him . I couldn't see him from the road. Pretty happy with the animal I just harvested. 8x7 whitetail dream buck.
Lesson learned, get off your ass and walk around, you might miss out on a impressive animal.

Now that is a kick ass whitey. Crazy to think how many people would have driven by him and only 60 m off the road. Lucky you decided to stop. Well done

Congrats on a dandy whitetail,
I read in a hunting magazine a few years back that 90% of all hunters dont go more than 1km from their truck.....maybe you don't have to !
Thanks for sharing your pictures and story

your paths were meant to cross i'd say.
if that dick hadn't blocked that road, you'd have never seen this guy.
definitely a deer of a lifetime, even if you eventually get a bigger one, this one's tale is awesome.

I agree that we need to be out there walking. BUT....after what happened a few km from our Elk camp last weekend http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/grizzly-bear-attack-hospitalizes-b-c-hunter-1.1874244 it's really hard to force yourself to face your fears and hike anyway! Keeps you on your toes though! We did manage to score 3 Elk (3 hunters in camp) but let me tell you, we were constantly looking over our shoulders!!!! That is a great buck though, I would love to have that bad boy on my wall!
