My son was very keen for Saturday morning. Up at 4:30, he had the trailer hooked up and loaded and was in the field by just after 5:30. He got his 16 geese decoys and 26 duck decoys spread out and had his layout all grassed in by about 7. Unfortunately the battery for his mojo decoy would not hold a charge, so no extra incentive for the ducks.
At 7:30 the first honks were heard. Game on! He did all his own calling and the first flocked cruised on in. Pick out the first goose in the row. bang. Goose down Pick out goose number 3. bang. goose down. Pick out another goose, I think it was about number 8 in the row. Bang. goose down. Holy crap! I have never had a triple on geese and he gets a triple on the first flock of the morning:-D. Of course after a start like that the shooting can only go downhill, and it did. He managed to call in 5 more flocks but only managed 2 more geese. The ducks would not cooperate, preferring the nearby slough. He was quite happy as he had never got 5 geese in one day before. Of course after the plucking and cleaning, it wasn't quite as much fun. I was impressed as it was his show from start to finish. He did all the set up and calling. He even reloaded the BBBs he shot.
Here is a photo after we got home. Hopefully it works.
The pup came from Foxton Gundogs earlier this summer, but neither dog was along for the hunt.
